Stop & Shop has a deal this week of buy 4 General Mills cereals and save $6 instantly. The cereals are generally all the sizes that are included. The smaller sizes start at about $3.39 each. Well, my rule of thumb is not to pay more than $1 for a box of cereal (unless of course it is organic).
I started off with 2 manufacturer's coupons for $1.50 of 2 boxes of GM cereal.
So, even if I were to buy 4 of the boxes at $3.39 each and use those coupons and get the instant $6 rebate, the price per box would be $1.14. You may think I'm crazy but not only is that .14 too much but I did not want 4 boxes of Trix ($3.39 ea). So my total of my 4 cereals of choice would have been more than $1.14 each.
So...I started thinking....if I combine this with the FiberPlus deal I posted here. I can get my average per box of cereal down. So this is what I did:
2 boxes of Trix ($3.39 ea) $6.78
1 box of Cookie Crisp $3.99
1 box of Multigrain Cheerios $ 3.59
2 boxes of FiberPlus ($4.39 ea) $8.78
-----------------------------------
-$6.00 Stop & Shop instant savings at register
-$3.00 2-$1.50 off manufacturer's coupons
-$2.80 2-$.70 off manufacturer's coupons that doubled to $1.40 each
-----------------------------------
Paid $11.34
Will submit the mail in rebate for FiberPlus cereal posted here and get $8.78 back.
After rebate will have paid $2.56 which makes that an average cost of $.43 for each box of cereal.
And a coupon for a free gallon of milk courtesy of General Mills printed out at the register. You can read here what I am going to do with that.
